Passive smoking is a much more dangerous for children's health than for adults, greatly increasing the risk of development of chronic cardiovascular and respiratory diseases in children.

This statement was made by the researchers from Children's Mercy Hospital in the US state of Missouri after a series of scientific studies.

The researchers found that high level of toxicity of tobacco smoke adversely affects the blood vessels of the child. As a result, children who are often exposed to passive smoking, are more likely to develop serious chronic cardiovascular diseases in adulthood.

Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, including 43 known as cancer-causing (carcinogenic) compounds.

Some babies who were exposed to cigarette smoke in the womb, became the victims of sudden infant death syndrome in infancy.

Tobacco smoke contains a huge number of toxic chemical substances, which at frequent inhalation, cause irreversible changes in blood flow, blood vessels, blood pressure and heart rhythm. In addition to the damage caused to the heart and arteries, passive smoking is also associated with other health risk factors such as obesity, high cholesterol and insulin resistance, which often leads to diabetes.

Nicotine is highly addictive

For children who grow up in families of smokers, the likelihood that they also will become smoker in adulthood is greatly increased. Blood tests conducted in 2011-12 in a large group of children whose parents are smokers, revealed the presence of nicotine in 41% of children aged from 3 to 11 years old. Nicotine has a strong negative effect on the physiological development of children.

Doctors worldwide recommend giving up smoking in order not to endanger your health and the health of people who surround you.

If you are an ex-smoker or still smoke, you need to care about your health. While smoking, such substances as cadmium, nicotine, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, ammonia, arsenic, and DDT stay in the lungs and later accumulate in the other body organs for years, causing numerous diseases.
